My Background (the longer version):

Since I was a child, I have always had experiences with x-rays. From many broken bones to recurring asthma attacks, my frequent need for x-rays ultimately led me to become a Registered Radiologic Technologist in 2000. I have performed x-rays, CT scans, and interventional studies in Angiography and Cardiac Catheterization lab, but I have also found a passion for teaching.  I returned to school for my Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences and graduated in 2007.  With all of this background, it has been primarily through teaching that I have acquired a true appreciation for mentoring and I thrive upon seeing people succeed in their goals.

Becoming a Radiologic Technologist was created to serve as a resource to others interested in the field of Radiography, and as you may have discovered in your research, it is one of a kind. I have taken all of the research needed to successfully select and progress through x-ray school and placed it in one convenient location for anyone interested in joining me in this exciting field.

I enjoy interacting with students and technologists alike.  Please feel free to connect with me through:

My Motivation for Publishing this Book:

Since I began teaching radiography, I have run into many students who attended schools promising education and training to become an “x-ray technician”, but who later learned the hard way that the school they attended for six months to a year did not provide the background education to allow them to work in hospitals as a radiologic technologist.  In other words, they were not accredited institutions.

As I continue in my teaching career, I regularly encounter students with similar stories. I began researching online tools for students to prevent this from happening and learned it was difficult to find this information collected together in one easy, convenient place.  Discovering this obstacle sitting in the way of potential and current students, inspired Becoming a Radiologic Technologist.

After several years of mentoring and observing students in classroom and clinical settings, I have not only been made aware of the misinformation regarding this field, I have also witnessed some very common mistakes that can make or break a student’s experience in school, and potentially in their future careers.

I have always enjoyed helping people reach their goals, and I wished a resource like this was available when I was researching my career.  A similar resource would have saved me valuable time and money.  It is my hope that this book will clear up any preconceived ideas about what x-ray techs do, how to gain entrance into an appropriate school, educate potential radiography candidates about the expectations that are placed on students, and inform readers about what kind of a job market they can expect to enter into after school.

Why Now?

As you will learn in the book, we are at a unique time in the health care setting.  I believe that regardless of the job market today, many jobs in the health care industry will be in dire need of qualified, caring individuals who have been trained well.  My approach to help with those needs is to encourage those who really feel like this is a career choice they want to pursue instead of a mere means to bring home a paycheck.  There will always be a need for health care workers who genuinely care about other people, and appropriate timing is crucial to meeting the needs of the community.
